 See photos from this event. July 28th Monica 10-1 (4KO's) faced Mariana Juarez 14-4 for the vacant 118lb Batamweight IBA World Title.
Match: Mariana Juarez Lost to Monica Lovato Date: 28-07-2007 Weight: Super Flyweight Venue: Sky City Casino, Acoma, New Mexico, United States Prediction: Lovato points win In a fantastic show of boxing ability, speed and also a great deal of heart, Monica Lovato not only got through the full 10 rounds for the first time in her career, but also against the toughest opponent she has faced to date. To top things off, she emerged as the winner of a close fought bout which ended in a split decision. Juarez came into the fight as the favourite, having much more experience and had completed the full 10 rounds 3 times before. However Lovato fought from the opening bell to the final bell and deserved the decision, lifting her first world title, the IBA Super Flyweight Title. Source
Once again Joaquin Zamora ranked #8 & Monica Lovato headline a Juan Romero Promoted show! On April 28th, 2007 Zamora won a 10 round Unanamous Decision over James Crayton. Joaquin put on a great show for his fans! He won every round and threw an enormous amount of punches. This is one skilled southpaw, look out welter weights, Zamora is on a mision! Monica defended her NABF Title against Carly Batey from San Diego, CA. Monica and Carly duked it out for 8 rounds. Lovato was a slow start and Batey was on the go the first few rounds. Lovato icked it up in the later rounds. She won a split decision over Carly Batey. Monica states that Batey is a great warrior and was a tough fight. Look out for a rematch in the future for these two women. Also on the undercard was another teammate of Monica and Joaquin, Anthony Vialpando from Santa Fe, NM made his pro debut with a spectacular 4 round victory!
On January 27th, 2007 Monica fought Julie Rubacalva ( her only loss was to Julie) for the Vacant NABF Superflyweight Title at the Sky City Casino in Acoma, NM promoted by Juan Romero Promotions. It was a great fight and avenge for Monica. These ladies went a tough 8 rounds. Monica was feelng ill hours before her fight. She had no idea that she was having a gall bladder attack during this time. The day after the fight Lovato spent her day in the ER, two days later she was diagnosed with gall bladder problems and had surgery to remove her gall bladder. This kept Monica out of the gym for almost two months but has fully recovered. On the main event that evening, Monica's teammate Joaquin Zamora also had a spectacular victory and won the USNBC Title in his welterweight division. Zamora is ranked #8 in the World by the WBC and will definitely be a World Champion in the near future. Monica and Joaquin are trained by the same trainer Mr. Al Lovato from Santa Fe, NM. Trainer Al Lovato has done quite well for these two fighters. Al's a great trainer says Lovato.
Monica (8-1, 4 KOs) will take on former title challenger Audrey Vela (6-1, 1 KO) of Austin, Tex. in a six-rounder at 115 on Nov. 10 in Houston, Tex. Last year, Vela lost a very controversial decision to Jackie Chavez in Espaņola, NM in a 122-pound title fight.
Monica (8-1, 4 KOs) was victorious Friday night at the Morongo Casino in Cabazon, Calif., winning a six-round majority decision over Heather Percival (8-3, 1 KO). Scores were 59-55, 58-56 and 57-57.
Unable to get a fight in her home state, Monica will hit the road this month when she takes on Heather Percival (8-2, 1 KO) in her home state of California. The fight takes place on Friday, July 21, in Cabazon, Calif. at the Morongo Casino. Monica and Percival will go eight rounds. Orlando Lora takes on Jose Juan Bermejo in the ten-round main event. - - - - - - Monica was scheduled to fight last Saturday night on the Romero Promotions card in Acoma, NM, but matchmakers were unable to secure an opponent for her.
Congratulations to Joaquin Zamora, Danny Romero and Romero Promotions for their success last Saturday night in Acoma, NM at the Sky City Casino. Zamora scored his 12th win, with a first-round TKO over veteran Julian Romero; Danny Romero made a successful comeback, ending a year's absence in the ring with a fourth round TKO over Edgar Pedraza; and Romero Promotions threw an action-packed show--their second this year. Monica rose to 7-1 (4 KOs) on May 12 in Las Vegas with a fourth round TKO win over Sharon Gaines (9-7, 3 KOs). The card was promoted by Guilty Boxing at the Orleans Casino. Last month, Lovato and Gaines fought a close split decision match in Ignacio, Colo. Next up for Monica: Tracy Moulton (5-6-1, 2 KOs) on the May 20th Espaņola card.
Monica and Joaquin Zamora (10-2-1, 8 KOs) are both scheduled to fight on the May 20 "Slugfest!" card in Espaņola on Saturday, May 20. The card, which includes four pro boxing bouts and three MMA fights, will take place at the New Mexico College Gymnasium.  Monica and Joaquin Zamora both won their last fights. On April 1, Monica won a split decision over tough Sharon Gaines (9-6, 3 KOs) at the Sky Ute Casino in Ignacio, Colo. ( click here for report ).
